Okay, this is old news, but I wanted to share the letter I wrote and that the Press Democrat printed. The story is old, but the sentiment is current. We need to be nicer to each other. From the media, to politicians, and especially to talk-show hosts, we need to be a nicer people.

COLUMN: LET THE PUBLIC SPEAK
EDITOR: In keeping in the spirit of shopping, I have a list of ``I wants''
involving the man trampled to death by a crowd of shoppers at a Wal-Mart
store:
* I want it not to have happened in our country, my state, our town ...
this world.
* I want the shoppers who did this to be sorry.
* I want not to believe that folks could kill a person because they were
eager to get a good deal on a TV, a set of sheets, some toys.
* I want no one to wait all night to buy stuff.
* I want everyone to care that this happened, to feel grief that a computer
game can be more important than a life.
* I want my family to skip holiday gifts this year, to give a donation to
the Gospel Mission instead -- and we are.
* I am going to send a donation to the Salvation Army in lieu of the usual
candy I send to my corporate clients. I want them to understand -- and am
proud that they will.
* I want us to each find a way to honor the man who died, by each of us
doing something good for someone else.
* I want us to be the kind, giving, caring people for which our nation is
noted.
* I want it never to happen again.
