The story is old, but the sentiment is current. We need to be nicer to each other. REID, Penngrove PAGE: B8<br /><br />COLUMN: LET THE PUBLIC SPEAK<br /><br />EDITOR: In keeping in the spirit of shopping, I have a list of ``I wants''<br /><br />involving the man trampled to death by a crowd of shoppers at a Wal-Mart<br /><br />store:<br /><br />* I want it not to have happened in our country, my state, our town ...<br /><br />this world.<br /><br />* I want the shoppers who did this to be sorry.<br /><br />* I want not to believe that folks could kill a person because they were<br /><br />eager to get a good deal on a TV, a set of sheets, some toys.<br /><br />* I want no one to wait all night to buy stuff.<br /><br />* I want everyone to care that this happened, to feel grief that a computer<br /><br />game can be more important than a life.<br /><br />* I want my family to skip holiday gifts this year, to give a donation to<br /><br />the Gospel Mission instead -- and we are.<br /><br />* I am going to send a donation to the Salvation Army in lieu of the usual<br /><br />candy I send to my corporate clients. I want them to understand -- and am<br /><br />proud that they will.<br /><br />* I want us to each find a way to honor the man who died, by each of us<br /><br />doing something good for someone else.<br /><br />* I want us to be the kind, giving, caring people for which our nation is<br /><br />noted.<br /><br />* I want it never to happen again.<br /><br />LINDA L.
